This series began many years ago, but when the war broke out in early 2003, I returned to the flowers and I returned to handpainting. ĘThey are my university to learn about lighting, reflections, design, poetry and grace. They are my love affair with shapes. They are always there in my California garden, whatever the season. On daily walks, they ask me to slow down, pause and be a visual artist. The handpainting is a tranquil process, allowing for quiet moments and peaceful visions.

Shown during Photo LA are original gelatin silver prints, on Bergger paper with hand applied toners, printed 8x10 on 11x14 paper in an edition of 10. This series also exists in a separate portfolio hand painted with Marshall Oil Colors. Both series can be purchased as fine art pigment prints.

Elizabeth says of her work “From the elegance of light falling on a beautifully textured wall, to the beauty of ones soul, my photographs seek to reveal the sensuality and serenity of the world that we inhabit physically and spiritually. They are a way of seeing not only that which is visible to the eye, but also sensed with the heart. They are my perception, imagination and way of understanding the world and I teach with the theory that all good photographs are self portraits. I choose nature’s palette as my guide, using the ethereal and sensual qualities of water, but all comes back to seeing first and being aware of the beauty in life that surrounds us daily. For me, making art, any art, is a gift.”
