Women In
Photography International (www.womeninphotography.org) Celebrates
it's 25th Anniversary with a final juried Call for Entries for 2006.
Founded in 1981, Women In Photography International (WIPI) has
progressed over the years to become one of the most recognized organizations
for women photographers worldwide. WIPI completes the twenty-fifth year
in 2006 by announcing "The Portrait
- a juried call for entries of traditional and non-traditional portrait
images.
"The Portrait" competition will be juried by an accomplished
panel of professionals and the top 25 images as well as 50 honorable
mention images will be showcased on womeninphotograhy.org.
For the Portrait competition, WIPI welcomes
images that include, single and multiple portraits including families,
friends, strangers as well as pets with people, animals, executive,
self-portrait, and personalities from the most classic to the most outrageous.
Submissions may include color, b/w, alternative or any digital photo
submitted as a JPEG file..
The classic and non traditional portrait is still one of the most
sought after images in photography," according to WIPI President,
Photo Artist Jean Ferro: 'The portrait captures a moment in time, a
rendering of an individual, a family, friend/s, strangers and/or pets
that celebrates our existence, brings validity to our lives."
The Portrait call for entries completes the 25th Anniversary year of
WIPI's of archive of women's achievements in photography. The year end
call for entries follows the successful print collection Turning
Silver Exhibition. Along with the organization's educational and
online outreach efforts, WIPI continues to honor women photographers
worldwide through our annual Distinguished Photographer's Award. Begun
in 1985 as a tribute to photographers of excellence & achievement, this
award recently paid homage to photographers Annie Leibovitz (2003) and
Sylvia Plachy (2004) at the Lucie Awards, in NYC. 2005 Distinguished
Photographer's Award honored one of WIPI's founding members, photographer
Carrie Mae Weems. Former recipients include: Eve Arnold, Linda McCartney,
Marion Post Wolcott, Ruth Orkin, Mary Ellen Mark, Grace Robertson, Judy
Dater, Ruth Bernhard, Bereniece Abbott and Joyce Tenneson.
