ARTIST STATEMENT: Freyda Miller Creating dualities in which the beautiful is offset by an element of fear or discomfort is part of my search and discovery. The content of the imagery deals with archetypal forms and speaks from a visceral place. My innate interpretation of space, color, form, light and the female form allows me to continually explore new levels of metaphor through the use of raw texture, fleshy, moody hues and subtle luminosity. The women I portray are both evocative and vulnerable. They are metaphors of my own visions, struggles, fears, guilt, strengths, fantasies, humor, nakedness, growth, dreams, nightmares, observations and creative license. They are my own experiences, whether real or imagined.

The alchemist in me combines diverse elements, making the transformation part of my own essence. Vintage treasures and vignettes of light combined with the perfect moment, only to be intercepted by the punctum, is my own process of alchemy. This unknown interference, which only photography possesses, makes the image unique and magical. These essential elements, combined with the process of assemblage, enable me to create an intimate world, which has no boundaries.
