Hello,

The year 2008 is an historical inclusion into the WIPI Distinguished Photographer's Award archive.

WIPI came to the realization that so many incredible photographers needed to be recognized for the work in their present career. Each year, a few classic and talented women slip away unnoticed until someone revives their photo archive. WIPI wanted to recognize both young and mature photographers in several categories of their success as working photographers.

With the success of the world wide web, women have been able to make incredible advances in recognition for their accomplishments. They have come out of the shadows and are a growing force in the image world.

Past recipients include:The Distinguished Photographers Award started in 1985 with the first award presented to Eve Arnold. The Distinguished Photographer's Award

Since WIPI's transition from a paperbound newsletter to an online resource in November, 1999 we have provided a volume of incredible work by women photographers from around the globe. Our Archives will take walk you into the lives of many contemporary photographers as well as articles from the Peter Palmquist historical perspective.

We have enjoyed a wealth of professional support through our juror committees as well and sponsors over the past online seven and one half years.rior to our online launch, WIPI enjoyed a wonderful history of exhibits and programs,

WIPI's Distinguished Photographer Award program has grown over the years from presentations to photographers such as Eve Arnold, Mary Ellen Mark to most recent, Annie Leibovitz, Sylvia Plachy and one of WIPI's original founding members, Carrie Mae Weems. We reached out to bring WIPI's history presentation to celebrate and collaborate the launch of the Lucie Awards in 2003. Both Leibovitz and Plachy were honored through this very special collaboration. Coming soon, March 2008, will be an announcement of 100 Distinguished Photographers in various categories. WIPI decided to step out and compile a list of well known established photographers as well as up and coming women who are active participants in their professional careers as photographers.

Between 2006 and 2008, WIPI provided the extraordinary opportunity for women photographers to participate in the 2006 25th Anniversary juried competition with the resulting, Kodak sponsored limited edition book, Turning Silver. 2007 followed with two juried competitions, The Portrait and 2007 Competition.
