1st Place Portrait

1st Place Portrait, Claud Peschel Dutombe -The son of a playwright and a film director, Claude Peschel Dutombé was born and raised in Berlin but has made his home in Asia for the past fifteen years. Growing up with strong creative influences, his artistic vision was shaped early on by exposure to art and extensive travel. Most of Dutombé’s photographic stories are related to the cultural heritage of various locales around Asia. When asked why his projects are mostly related to the heritage of cultures he did not grow up with, his response would always be: "it’s most probably my child-like curiosity and fascination of the unknown. The lack of social boundaries carried down from generation to generation leaves me with a certain naivety which opens the eyes to pure visual impacts or historical facts.”

2nd Place, Portrait

Ellen Jantzen was born in St. Louis MO. Her 1st college degree was in graphic arts; later emphasizing fine art. In 1992, after a move to Los Angeles, she graduated FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) with an advanced degree in fashion. She then worked for Mattel Toy Company as a senior project designer. She was trained in computer design at Mattel then set about to learn Photoshop. As digital technology advanced and cameras were producing excellent resolution, she found her perfect medium. It was a confluence of technical advancements & creative desire that culminated in her current explorations in photo art using both a camera to capture images & a computer to alter/manipulate the pieces.
