"Ms.
Liebold's work reflects a deep connection and empathy with her subjects that enables
the viewer to cross the space between subject and viewer and into the subject's
world. Without artifice or manipulation, she presents the profound dignity and
spirit of very poor people. Their human yearnings and strivings evoke within the
viewer a self-recognition and, in turn, a profound respect and caring for the
subjects." Traer Sunley, Vice President for Communications, Pact, Inc.
Susan’s
work has been exhibited in the California African American Museum, and on-line
at the New York African Art Museum (summer 2009). The New York Public Library’s
Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture has used her images in their on-line
exhibit and in the 2004 book, both titled “In Motion: The African American
Migration Experience”. One of her images was published in the America 24/7
book in 2003. Her work has been exhibited in the U.S. and Ethiopia. Non-profit
organizations in the United States, Africa and Asia publish Susan's images to
promote their work. The USAID mission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia has her images
on permanent display.
Susan has lived and traveled around the world, as
a Peace Corps volunteer, NGO staff, and on photography assignments. She has a
Certificate in Photography from the International Center of Photography in New
York.
